A summer to remember!

Guess who’s back???? So I’m currently writing this during my lunch break at work and it almost feels like I’ve forgotten how to write. It’s been way too long! My apologies, I was only meant to have a month off to revise for my pre-reg exam but that month slowly stretched to 4. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Despite having material to write about, the mojo just wasn’t there! I don’t know about you but I always associate the month of September with a new start as it’s the start of a new academic year, and I can’t let this month pass without coming on here and giving you guys an update on what I’ve been up to! Sooooooooo let’s get into it!!!! 💃🏽

Summer 2019 has definitely been one to remember! So many memories were made, goals were achieved and new beginnings were set. So sit back and relax while a share a few of those moments with you! Firstly, let’s rewind back to the beginning of May, when I took my first trip of the year! My best friend and I decided to have a cheeky weekend getaway to the beautiful city of Venice. I have never been to a city that was not only beautiful but also so rich in culture and history. You may or may not know this but pasta is one of my favourite things on this earth and I couldn’t go to Italy without indulging in some authentic Italian cuisine. Some may say I indulged a bit too much, but what do they know? Lmaoo

Now let’s fast forward just a little bit to the beginning of June when we showered my -still baking- niece with so much love in anticipation for her arrival in July. I’m still so honoured that my brother and sister in law, allowed me to help organise the day and also host the baby shower! The baby shower really got me thinking maybe I should start hosting events, apparently I have the personality for it! ☺️

Exactly one week later, your girl turned 23! 🎊 Despite having a life changing exam about 3 weeks away, I was still determined to celebrate, even if it was small. I gathered a handful of friends and headed to a rooftop bar. It was really small and intimate, just the way I wanted it! This was my last social event, till the end of June and I was determined to make it count!

For the next 3 weeks, I locked myself in my room and revised like I’d never before! I’m not even joking, even I didn’t know I could revise that much cos I’m naturally very lazy! I was doing a minimum of 12hrs daily revision, to the point I had lost so much weight cos I was barely eating. The 27th of June aka judgement day finally comes and I head over to the excel centre to take my exam. I can’t lie, both papers were actually a blur. With me, after an exam, I usually know whether I did well or not but with these papers, I actually had no idea. But I wasn’t about to let that bug me, I was determined to enjoy the rest of my pre-registration year.

Now we’re in the month of July, this was hands down my favourite month of the year thus far. On the 13th of July, my niece decided to make a slightly late but fashionable arrival, already taking after her Aunty ☺️ Then 5 days later, I watched my brother walk across the stage to receive his PhD Award, after 4 years of hard work and perseverance. Within 6 days, he earned 2 new titles, a father and a Dr! Such a proud moment for me!

Then just a week later, I received the email that’ll change my life for good. I still remember that day like yesterday. While others stayed up late refreshing their email, I decided to get a good night’s sleep as I believed at this stage “it’s above me now!” I woke up to the sound of my phone popping off, with everyone sharing their results both good and bad, so I decided to check my email to know my fate. As I read the words “I am pleased to inform you….” I literally jumped out of my bed in excitement, didn’t even bother to finish reading the rest, ran to my mum’s room and literally jumped on her! That moment of pure joy and bliss knowing that your hard work along with God’s grace has made the past 5 years truly worth it, is a moment I’ll cherish for the rest of my life! I am proud to say that I am now a fully qualified pharmacist. 🎊💃🏽

Y’all thought I was done? We’re just getting started. Let’s call this chapter “Hot girl summer” Now that the biggest weight has been lifted of my shoulders, I was ready to live my best life! 4 days after my results came out, I was on the plane to Portugal, ready to have the best 1 week of my life at Afronation! When I say that my mission was accomplished, I’m not even gassing! It was so beautiful to see black people be unapologetically black and carefree whilst celebrating their culture. The unity between black people of the diaspora that I witnessed in those 4 days, is one which I hope we’ll be able to cultivate in our day to day living. Afronation was definitely the best holiday I’ve ever been to. Such a well organised event with so many highlights and I just glad I was able to witness and be a part the first one! p.s D’banj is a top tier performer! If you didn’t know, well now, you know….

Now we’re back to boring old England 😭 During this time, I’m off work for a month, trying to get my life together, reuniting with old friends, spending time with my niece, reading a little and going out a little. One day, I spontaneously decided to book tickets to go see The Barbershop Chronicles by myself. I seem to be enjoying going to the theatre by myself nowadays. I also got to witness 2 people that I’ve known since I was a kid get married. It’s crazy to think that you might have already met your soulmate and that life always finds a way to bring you both back into each other’s life. And to round up my adventurous summer, on the 1st Sept, I officially got on the register as a pharmacist meaning I could start working and leave this broke life behind looool

So that’s what I’ve been up to for the past 4 months. Writing this all down has been really therapeutic and just made me 100 times more appreciative of the life that I have and I only have God to thank for that! I think I have my mojo back now 💃🏽 I hope you guys enjoyed going on this journey with me as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
